SPRING WATCH - AMPHIBIAN ALERT PLEASE DON'T DRIVE OVER THEM!!!!!

Take care when you are walking around the paths because we have once more become toad central. Try not to handle them because our salty skin causes them irritation and most definitely try not to tread on them because their lives have only just begun..... and one in every 5 is that prince you were looking for!

TREE O'CLOCK 5th December 2009 - 47 people joined in the record breaking tree planting event. This led to 947 scots pine, downy birch, alder and willows being planted in an area of restock. Three cheers to every one who took part - the forest will look so much better and be so much healthier after your efforts.

PANTO WATCH (she of the giggles and blonde curls and he of the beard and bad temper)made a seasonal appearance in the hall as a prelude to the festive ceilidh.
There were many rigorous rehearsals,Jeremy Faxman was obnoxious and bossy, poor Gruffalo lost so much weight he is now feeling the cold, having shivered some of his purple prickles off, the reindeer had their enhanced CRBS checked, only one passed and even he was suspect, the shieling sheilas definitely headed south to join their antipodean wanes for the winter - they too have been perishing and refused to be fashion victims in pink sequins. However, the Burnett bairns in the wood stole the show looking non-plussed and totally unperturbed by the whole affair.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the entertainment from Fran and her thespians to Adam, Georgia, Granny and Grandad, Mike the mellow and the mulled winers.

ASTRONOMY EVENINGS - ABRIACHAN HALL

Amanda Smith inspired us all with her autumn series of astronomy evenings - held at the village hall and proving to be well attended and well received. So now we are entering the year after the International Year of Astronomy and the session on the 30th January will have a Star of Rabbie Burns' twist - starting earlier at 6.30pm.
We have already seen satellites, shooting stars, Jupiter, travelled as deep as the naked eye can see and some of us are still a bit slow on the uptake! Why not come along and perhaps hear of the blue moon, wait for Saturn, decide whether Betelgeuse is really done for?
Take binoculars, try the telescopes and hope for dark starry skies. If it is miserable Amanda has an excellent indoor option - constellation cramming and revision using a very visual IT programme.
We will hopefully find some funding to continue the sessions in autumn 2010. Grateful thanks to Highland Council for supporting them this past season.

ABRIACHAN VILLAGE HALL

The community has a small, traditional community hall located beside the hill road above Loch Ness. It is particularly well suited to small and intimate performances/events. The hall was built in 1920 and fully refurbished in 2000.
The hall has a well sprung floor and tongue-and-groove pitch pine lined walls; this really warms up the inside of the hall and provides great accoustics. There is a versatile sectional stage.
The kitchen has a cooker, sink, urn, kettle, heated soup tureens, pans, glassware and a range of kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery. There is a serving hatch into the main hall.
There is a variety of lighting provided for the hall and stage use, and PA speakers are provided on either side of the hall. Other sound equipment includes two microphones with stands, a CD player, and a Carlsboro amplifier. Wall heaters work on a coin meter.
Regular events held at the hall include Scottish Country Dancing, local library, Active Abriachan, table tennis, games nights and local community events.
Permanent disabled access ramp and toilet facilities are in place
The Hall, like all public spaces in Scotland, is a No-Smoking building. If you smoke outside, please do so away from the building so smoke does not blow indoors, and dispose of your cigarette butts carefully
There is free parking provided at the hall in Abriachan, but space is limited so please keep that in mind if you are planning an event
To book the hall, please contact Jo on 01463 861257 or Lynn on 861363.
